Dwarf Pampas Grass

Pampas grass is named after the pampas plain lands in South America where this group of ornamental grasses is so common. Pampas grasses is a jumbo tuft forming repeated grass with sharp and toothed leaves, and have pink & white flowers feathers.

Dwarf pampas grass has its origin in the western countries. Its scientific name is Cortaderia selloana and generally, it is known as pumila pampas grass. This dwarf pampas grass belongs to the family of Gramineae and Poaceae.

Pumila pampas grass or dwarf pampas grass cannot grow up in high temperatures. In favorable conditions, it can grow up to height of 3 - 5 feet very rapidly. The wideness of this dwarf pampas grass is of 4- 6 feet wide. To grow up to the 5 meters tall, it requires lot of water that means that it can only grow in those areas where lot of water is present. Leaves of dwarf pampas grass are green in color and narrow in shape. It can be grown in kind of dirty place but it should be fertile. Moist dirt is one of the best conditions for this type of grass. Up to mid of winter, silver white plums with a pink bloom makes the grass look very attractive. The best thing is it can grow in seaward conditions.

Pampas grass grows itself freely. While pampas grass is growing, it looks as pink or rich violet color and after it is matured, it looks like creamy white. It has narrow, rich green and attenuate leaves with rough margins. Its flowering is large around of 30 to 70 cm long. It can grow up to the height of 3 meters. Its leaves are downy towards the base of dorsal surface. It is also known as pampas grass and andean pampas grass. Latin names of this grass are Gynerrium jubata, C. selloana Asch and Graebn.

Dwarf pampas grass is a repeated kind of grass, and it is ornamental kind of plant. These grasses look very beautiful with their white, yellow and pink color, and with its large downy flowers. This kind of grass is not suitable for eating purpose or for food supplement.

Female plants (Dwarf pampas grass) look more beautiful and attractive than male ones. Because of feathers appearance and absence of silky hair, which covers the very small flowers, male dwarf pampas grass looks narrow and thin. These grass plants are found all around the United States, especially in the East and South U.S.

One can also grow these types of dwarf pampas grass in their garden as they provide very attractive look. It can also be grown as a pot plant in which their small flowers can create more attractiveness. In winter, if you plant this grass in garden area then it provides a dramatic effect in garden. These flowers looks like as of the spring has came. The dwarf pampas grass can grow up to 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide in pot.

Thus, we can say dwarf/pumila pampas grass is one of best ornamental pampas grass, which is used in cities and are best suitable for gardens and lawns of houses.
